[CUBE] displays follow-up

hello fellow cubists...
As the tread seams to mention monitors, especially lcd screens, I wan't to mention my last experience with them.

2 years and a half ago I bought the cube with 15inch flatpanel display, a sound but real business expense. Buying these Apple products I really thought it was a good investment. Until last wednesday...

working on my cube on photoshop, archicad etc., my screen suddenly lost brightness, to a feint yellow tinted nearly dark screen. Two minutes after that, the brightness went to zero. Dead screen... I do believe it is the backlight which is not functioning anymore. If I shed light on the screen from my desk lamp, I do see very feintly the desktop with icons,... But without brightness it is unusable!!

Disaster... a 1000pound screen bust. As a selfemployed graphic designer, this is bad, very bad indeed. I lost total confidence in Apple products (my original ibook went dead last November). Nevertheless I will open to look inside if a simple fix would repair it, but I doubt it very much. Apple repair service quotes 520 euros to fix it,... the price of a new screen. And of course because of its original price, I didn't have any cents left for the apple care plan...

Any clues or ideas how to fix it or what could have been the cause???
