Measuring fps

I see mention of fps's in many benchmark reports using apps like
Quake3 and others.  How do you get this info?  The only app I've
found that I can get fps's for is Serenescene's Marine Aquarium.
So that's the app I've been using to compare the graphics performance
of different graphics cards.

I'd also like to know how well my Quake3 performs on these different
cards.  Where do I look for this data?
