OS X Installation (slightly OT)

Has anyone (beside me) installed OS X on a machine and have Cores(OS 9) 
along with several other aliases
all ending with (OS9) left visible in the main directory. As all files 
of this nature, they are owned by the root.
My suspicion is they should have bee left invisible. Re-installation 
left same aliases. Is there a way in terminal
to turn off visibility of these files?
