Cube, Airport card, self-assigned DHCP address

Hi,
I am having trouble on my small home network. I have a Netgear
MR814v2 wireless router, which I use together with a Cube and an
iBook (dual usb) (each with an original Airport card), and with a
beige G3 (connected to the router by RJ45 cable).
I use the iBook and the Cube in the same room. The iBook remains
connected the router all the time (all bars illuminated). Lately I've
been having many connectivity problems with the Cube....
I'll be using the internet, and suddenly I can't connect to anything.
Going to the network preferences panel, it shows a 169.XXX-series IP
address and the note "self-assigned". The Airport card shows as still
being connected to the router (all bars illuminated, and router name
with a checkmark in the Airport menu). Sometimes just waiting awhile
will lead to the reassignment of an IP address from the router. Other
times, turning off and on the Airport card will do this. But lately
this has worked less and less. I just have to wait until it decides
it wants to work.
Looking at the router config from the iBook, it shows that the Cube
is connected to the router. Yet somehow it's not getting an IP
address.
Any ideas of suggestions? This has gotten to the point where the Cube
is useless for internet work as half the time it cuts out mid-session.
Thanks for your help!
