[Cube] RAID

Can someone give me the prose and cons (is that the expression) on RAID.

The background is that I want to have a continues backup of my Cube  
HD instead of sporadic backups.
Is the RAID solution that is available in Disk Utility any good or  
should I use Soft RAID or anything els?

I have a 450Mhz G4 Cube with a Western Digital 320 HD partitioned in  
two partitions of 127,75 GB and 170,1 GB and a LaCie P3 250 GB  
partitioned in two patitions 127,75 and 104,89 GB.

I want the two 127,75 GB partitions to be mirrored and I want to be  
able to take the LaCie to other locations and computers and be able  
to boot from it.

Is this possible?
