[Cube] CD will not eject!

I've got a Cube from October 2000, and sometime last year the drive motor in that CDROM started having trouble ejecting CDs.

It has now gotten so bad that it struggles to do it. It will try, give up, and the CD goes back in. I have found that if I wait a couple of seconds and hit the eject button on the keyboard again, it will try again, and this time go a little further.

A few times like this and eventually there is enough of it sticking out that I can ~carefully~ and ~quickly~ grab the clear edge of the CD either by hand or with handy needlenose pliers. It is a nuisance, to be sure.

I don't know what else to do other than get another drive. I just figured the motor is crapping out, not meant to do vertical ejects, I don't know, but you are not the only one with this problem. Hopefully someone will have a less neanderthal solution.

I am holding out for a new 'Power' Mac or whatever they're going to call them, (waiting to hear more from WWDC), or a new 2nd gen iMac-Intel to replace this as my primary. But that does not solve the problem.
