i did use a dvd-r but you have 2 options: get one set to slave- like i  
did- and are more difficult to find - or use one set to master and  
change the hd to slave. if you do the second thing, be aware that you  
will lose target disk mode. your mac store had the giga design upgrade  
available recently, but i don't know if they have it available now.  
the dvd-r they have is the master type, though. i am trying to  
remember where i got mine.
  i am running tiger 10.4.11, the last incarnation in my pismo- g3  
500, 768 ram- flawlessly, the cube 500 handles it even better!
