  I think the problem is that Apple uses RS422 which is fast compared to 
the RS232 used on PC's.
one of the problems is data will have collisions going from a high speed 
device to a slower one, If you hook up a RS 422 device to a RS 232 port 
the 232 can't  keep up with the RS 422 device so it won't work.
