Actually iTunes 2 requires it, and the iPod requires iTunes 2.

I had to upgrade my TiBook to 9.2 for that reason -- but I'd agree 
that in general I see little point in the upgrade for the 2400.

Of course, I was complaining when I had to upgrade to system 6 ;)
