[Duo2400] Duo Dock simms question

I recently picked up a Duo Dock II, and desired to remove the lid and
swap it 
with my other dock...

I removed the lid from the DDII and noticed that it had a 68-pin SIMM in
the 
holder near the (Tick Of Death) motor...

I do not think any of the DD's I have ever owned had the SIMM
installed.. 
pray tell, what does it do?

Isn't that the FPU? More knowledgeable listers can confirm this and
probably tell you which duos can benefit from it.
