[G4] PC iPod on Mac

I tried to use my iPod on my Mac then a PC.  When I went to add MP3's 
from the PC, it erased and crashed my iPod.  I really don't know why.  
In the end I backed up all my PC's MP3's to CD, Put them on the Mac and 
loaded my iPod up that way.
