The current leader in the hard drive wars is the Seagate Barracuda.

IBM's were really in vogue a few years ago, but have really suffered  
from all the reported failures of their large capacity drives. The  
Barracuda's are also super quiet. I'm using an 80 GB one that I'm quite  
happy with.
