[G4] 9 Boot Goes Black

Booting into 9 on MDD leads to a black screen with a white outlined 
curser arrow. Anyone know how to avoid this? Even happens when booting 
from a 9.2.2 CD-ROM. Just at the point where the desktop switch is 
happening is when it goes and stays black instead of coming back from 
the switch.
