Address Book Question

My wife is having a problem with her Address Book on her G3 Blue/White 
running Panther 10.3.1. After a brief period of normal use after she 
opens the application, it slows down and becomes unresponsive. It does 
this both when opened from Mail and when opened alone. Anyone seen this 
and/or solved it?
