The same thing happened to me a few months ago. As I recall I booted from the OSX install CD and opened Disk Utility. Somewhere in there is a preference, "Mount Volume At Startup", which had become unchecked. I think it was in the Partition tab in the Options Menu. You also might try DFA under "Options."
