[G4] clean keyboard

Last February, when I moved & knew my system would be down a few days, I
put my original G4 450 keyboard upside down, on the top rack of our
dishwasher. Ran it with out soap, heat dry. Then took it apart at the
bottom (under the space bar). found 3 basic layers and
inserted small spacers to spread the layers out. Then set the whole
keyboard propped up on end with opening facing a heater w/fan unit and
left it for a couple of hours. Seemed real dry, so I re-assembled the
bottom, wrapped the cord up & packed it for the move. 2 days later, set
it all up, said a prayer, & turned it on. All was & still is fine. Clean
keyboard. I no longer eat at the keyboard as that was the big problem.
Kind of unorthodox, but I seemed to have read that someone else on
this list did that & reported it in this same discussion a year or so
ago. My keyboard was really bad, cookie crumbs, cigarette ashes, spilled
pop, & 3 years 3 months worth of accumulated dust , etc. It was
starting to have keys hang and you had to almost punch it to get it to
register. I thought that if it didn't work it would justify a quick trip
to the local computer store and purchase a brand new extended keyboard.
I guess I have gotten used to this compact format they shipped back
then, and since it all works great again I haven't even thought about
replacing it.

HTH. What ever you do, good luck
Scott
