[G4] CD Burn crashes Mac after burn

I have the Kensington Expert Mouse Pro.  The menu for my CD Burn in OS 9.2
contains only 'Quit' or to turn on Balloons.  I am wondering if I should
only burn in OS X?  If I burn in OS X will the cds only be useful in OS X
afterwards?  

Sorry for the simplistic questions.
