Well, I network via ethernet (by way of my router) and I can definetly 
tell you that OS9 and OSX do not network reliably together. OSX to OSX 
is very fast and reliable. But mixed (9 to X) the connection drops and 
it takes hours to move what takes minutes X to X.   Not sure this is 
your explanation - but it's what I know.
