Forgot to add:

Even the standard 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet port will give you an advantage
if you network more than more computer through a gigabit switch, and the
computers all have gigabit ports. The benefit will be experienced on file
transfers between stations.

The G5 comes with a 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet port standard, so it already
has gigabit on the logicboard. And as others have pointed out, even the
fastest cable connection, up to 4Mb/sec, won't even come close to maxing it
out.
