I use Canopus PCI card to convert my VHS tape to DV format using iMovie to capture. DV format (iMovie format) is huge (approx. 1 hr = 12 GB). Then I covert them to MPEG1 (VCD) instead of MPEG2 (DVD). Roughly, VCD can hold 1hr of movie at 600MB. DVD can hold 1:30 hr at 4 GB. VCD can save you a lot of hard drive space plus VCD format will play on DVD player. VCD video quality is almost the same as VHS. DVD video quality is the same as mini DV. Rule of thumb: MPEG1 is for VCD burning only and MPEG2 is for burning DVD only. VCD burns only on CD-R or CD-RW disk and DVD burns only... well, you know the answer. Rav
