[G4] How to Reset 10.4's Get Info "Open with" Option

The subject may sound weird but I wonder if someone knows how to reset the
list applications under the "Open with" option under the OSX 10.4.2 "Get
Info"? 

I have no problems getting the Finder "Get Info" to open; however, when I
click on the ³Open with² button I get the spinning disc for what seems like
forever.  It then presents a long list of all kinds of applications with
many dupes. I  have to wait for the whole list to get to show up to let me
select another application - the last option.

How can this long list be trimmed or reset?

One of the first thing I tried was to trash the finder's .plist file. That
did not work. 

I don't remember OS 10.3 having this weirdness. Anyone else having issues
with the Get Info "Open with" button?
