[G4] Sleeping Mouse

I'm running 10.3.8 on a Quicksilver G4.   Lately, when the G4 goes to sleep, 
I can awaken it immediately, but the cursor arrow doesn't appear for 1 1/2 
minutes (it seem like forever). I've tried all the obvious - repaired 
permissions, quit all applications before letting the G4 go to sleep, disconnecting all 
external hardware, disconnecting and reconecting the USB cable to the keyboard, 
etc.   Any suggestions?
