[G4] Music notation software

Hi Gang!

Is there such a thing as music notation software for the Mac or PC?

My nephew would like to learn the basics of music notation because of
his interest in "Sound Design". He isn't a musician but would to be
able to read music.

I have been attempting to set him up with an old Sawtooth and a few
audio software products of various kinds such as Pro Tools and Bias.
