Yes, it most likely will work given that it's decent quality memory,  
but since you already have 512 MB you probably won't notice any  
difference. It has been shown repeatedly by various magazines and web  
sites that 512 MB is the knee of the performance curve for current  
OS's and applications. On the other hand if it's just going to waste  
in a PC you no longer use it can't hurt.
