One of the biggest problems with staying with OS 9 that I've found is the lack of browser support.  HTML is being developed as we communicate, and the browsers that work with OS 9 will not read the newer versions of HTML correctly.  You will find that you will be able to access fewer and fewer web sites, and will not be able to take advantage of their graphics or links, and maybe even their text.  

I think you'll find OS X much more stable than 9, too.  I suggest you switch.  It took me a while, and I'm still using OS 10.2.8.  Once you get used to it, you'll wonder why it took you so long.

Your old apps will still run in Classic.
