Wilton, for OS 10.4.2, I recommend using Retrospect Backup 6.1. It fixed some problems created in Tiger with the new file structure (Mac extended, case-sensitive, journalled). RB 6.0.204 seemed to work with Tiger, on both my G5 and G4 as long as journalling is turned off and you are backing up to a external hard drive, but had problems with with some tape drives. The upgrade to 6.1 is costly ($129) but works for the most part. See MacFixit threat concerning system slowdown across a network when scheduled backup is running.
