[G4] Freezes on Login

Can you start up with a boot cd os install, and do a repair permissions?
Is there more than one account on the computer, if so does it happen  
to all accounts or just one?
As a general rule I usually have more than one account on a computer,  
that way I can troubleshoot if it's an account problem or a general  
os problem.
