Jay,
I agree with Hector. OSX installation problems like these usually indicate a ram problem. Have you installed any new DIMM's lately? How much ram do you have?
BTW, I have a dual 533 Digital Audio and I was considering a similar processor upgrade. Did yours make a big improvement?
