[G4] G4 single to dual question

I attained a G4 gigabit power mac the other day.  It has a bad P/S, and I am
looking for one of those.  But my main question is could I simply buy a dual
CPU and put it on that board?  I didn't consider this option until I saw an
auction on ebay for a dual CPU and the auction stated it would work on any
gigabit mobo. After doing a ton of reading, I am sure it's a G4 gigabit
mac.  Proved further by the rare 22pin power connector that I am also
looking for.  Thanks in advance.
