[G4] help with G3

i recently got a hold of a B/W G3...unfortunately the
previous owner took the internal hard drive with him.
i got a hold of another HD (80Gb) and i am trying to
install OS X 10.4.

the problem is the hard drive does not show up on the
list to install the OS. System profiler shows the HD
though. what am i doing wrong?
