Tried that, swapped batteries with my sons Beige G3 and no joy.

I even got really ambitious today and rebuilt the machine ... took 
everything out and put everything back in ... still no joy.  It just 
does not recognize the Startup CD or the Norton CD and there is nothing 
in the Startup Drive window.
