[G4] G-4 MDD HD Size Issue

I put a 250 Gig in and partitioned in 3 80 gig sections.  The machine  
mounts and sees all 3 drives. I put Tiger on the first partition with  
all updates. The machine boots and works but if left alone for a  
period of time it just freezes.
cannot force quit or relaunch anything. Ran all utility programs with  
no luck. Any advice? BTW This is on the Bus under the Optical drive.
