You are right. I did not read it correctly. I have had airport on the brain
lately in trying to get my two laptops hooked up wirelessly. 

On my G3 iBook I thought I had it connected only to find out that I was
connected to a neighbor's network.

Will I have any problems upgrading to Tiger? Apple tells me that I need
built-in Airport.

 

I'm not sure where you got THAT information. The Tiger box clearly states
that "built-in FireWire" is required, not Airport.
