[G4] Trouble booting G4

Hi everybody,

I'm having some trouble booting my G4 (gigabyte ethernet). When I try
booting, it falls straight into open firmware. If I type "mac-boot", I get a
folder-like icon, blinking the Mac smiley-face and a question-mark, If I
hold down Option I can see the available boot devices (one with 10.4 and one
with 9.2, separate disks) but when I attempt to boot from one of them, the
screen just refreshes. This also happens when I try to boot from CD.

I'm not familiar with Apple's open firmware, and I have no documentation for
it, so I haven't really been able to do much to debug the problem. Has
anyone got any idea what might be wrong, things I can try, or pointers to
documentation I should read that could help me?

I'd be really grateful for any help, as this has me stumped. Thanks in
advance,

Petter
