Thanks you, compadres-

Do you know of a way to find out what firmware I
already have (it does not appear to be in system
profiler)?

When I started the update, it started to run classic
9.2, and, on closer perusal of the 4.2.8 rules I
realize it said for G4's with 9.1 or higher, BUT NOT
X, and I already have OSX, 10.2.8.

Perhaps I already have this level of firmware? 

All useful ideas are welcome,
