[G4] hardware start-up problem

so I believe that I have tracked my start-up problem to the on switch. I opened up the machine & pulled the switch panel off & pressed it a few times and it started. After 2 days it shut off & won't re-start. I believe that all sleep & timed shut-downs are off. My ? is: could something wrong with the board that the switch is on cause it to shut down? I do not believe that my problem is the battery nor the reset remedy button next to it, I have tracked the problem beyond that to the switch. Any ideas. The machine runs fine when its on.
