[G4] FireWire Hard drive question

	I bought a 320 GB FireWire hard drive to store my rather large  
iMovie projects until they are ready to be burned.  The software that  
came with it said that it would shutdown and start up with the  
computer.  However, I had to format the drive as Mac OS Extended  
which erased the preloaded software.  The drive still shuts down and  
starts with the computer, but I was wondering if I need to eject the  
drive before I shut down the computer.
