[G4] monitor problem

A broken wire or a loose connection in the video cable can do that.

There are three wires which are grounded or connected with diodes that identify Macintosh monitors. They are checked at power-on time. If they were loose when last powered up the monitor type will appear frozen.

Reseat the cable, make sure the screws are tight then shut down all the way to power-off. Restart.
