System preferences > Hardware > Hardware (right after
Energy Saver)

Eric's suggestion about the Development Tools may be
the answer here, as I do have them installed but have
never updated them.

As for any "upgrade" to the processor, that part
doesn't add up.  I've never seen any reason to think
the processors were even replaced, much less upgraded.
 As far as I can see, this was an off-the-shelf
machine when I got it, despite being second-hand.
