Oh, BTW, you say you can boot in Leopard, on his machine, from your PB? If so then his machine "sees" your PB as an external FW drive on which you have a properly installed OS with all the proper underpinnings and system requirements, which you lose when you do your work around.
But I'll bet that even then his machine is much slower w/Leopard than w/Tiger.
