Scanner software?

Hi everyone,
                  I wonder if anyone out there can point me to some 
scanner software for my Umax  Astra 3400? I downloaded VueScan but that 
is US$67 or thereabouts as I am in Australia that equates to money I 
can't afford at present even though it seems as excellent app? I am 
tired of using Classic all the time and would like to eventually 
eliminate it completely!
