Is the dead pixel on the LCD screen or is it visible on the tape (i.e., when you watch it on a monitor?)
I have a few dead pixels on the LCD screen that I don't worry about, but I had a dead pixel on the CCD (right in the middle of the screen when viewing recorded footage) on a Canon Optura pi.
It was after the warranty expired.  Canon "massaged" the dead pixel for about $80 Cdn. and took about 1-2 weeks.

My main camera is a Sony TRV900.  Much better quality than the newer 950 (in my opinion, and according to some other users/reviewers).  If you can find a used 900, that would be my suggestion.
