I can't say for sure, but I'd be willing to bet you're having difficulty
setting the input source for your VCR. I would suggest that you try
recording from a source that you're sure about such as another VCR. Then
you'll know you have indeed selected the right input source and you can try
the Formac again. I don't think I would try to troubleshoot the connection
without having a video monitor of some sort (TV or otherwise) connected to
the output of the recorder.
