the canon Lide 20 is a nice 600x1200 USB scanner.
just over an inch thick
no power cord as it powers from the USB cable.
$45 at Amazon right now ( a good deal in Dec was $80)
Downside - the software requites that you have Photoshop7 for OSX
to get around this, you can use some great software called Vuescan. 
it's priced around $40 and is fantastic.

I don't own this scanner yet but I helped two friends get setup with 
the same scanner and they both have been happy. considering one for 
myself at this price.
