titles look bad?

Hi, my question is:
Does it seem to others that the titles you add in iMovie 3.0.2 are not
as beautiful as in iMovie 2.x? I tried to make a "stripe subtitle" in
3.0.2 and and it looked awful, no transparent gradient in the box... Or
is there something wrong with my software?

If it is iMovie that is the problem, can anyone recommend any 3rd party
software that renders nice titles?
thanks everyone!
