Since you still have the original files why not just archive them on a 
CD/DVD as data files and then feel secure about being able to recover 
them after deleting them from the hard-drive.  Seems like an easier 
solution than ripping them at some future date and the media for 
archiving is cheap and small enough that they can be kept conveniently. 
  I would only worry about ripping if the original files were already 
lost or destroyed.
