Thanks for the help james and all
 From the mac support forum toast has been suggested by a good few 
people as a way of overcoming cross platform issues.
my basic problem is that I want to send out a video on a disc with good 
res and quality that will be playable in a high percentage of pcs an 
dvds

What is  ultimately the best way to do this?
It is great to be finally getting some answers to these questions. 
Roxio support don't support!
