I suspect you're right that the dropped frames might be because of breaks in the timecode. As 'sb' points out, there is no reason with my hardware that I should be dropping frames.
I'm hoping that FCE2 will fix my problems, but at the same time, I'm wondering if I don't want to upgrade to FCP4 rather than FCE2 as I'd really like to have the better titling features in FCP4 (BTW, anyone know when FCP5 will be out?).
