noise on tapes on sony pc100e

hello all

I've got lots of mini dv tapes recorded on a sony dcr pc100e, 
including one I took this afternoon

I seem to have a sporadic problem with one or two bands of pixelation 
down the screen

they've been appearing on playback of different tapes as I try and 
work out if it's the tapes or the camera's playback that's causing it

it now seems to be unrelated to the tape but I can't find a way of 
stopping it - so what is it? should I be cleaning something?
