If you read the post again you will see the implication of this being a 
straight in the crowd street shoot. To most of us this dictates a 
simple DV camera w/ tape and maybe an external or boom mic.
However, if I can assume a reliable laptop (Power BIG issue) and 
assistant, then a firewire connection is preferable, and as to control 
I would want to test. Non-controllable with assistant pressing capture 
now is good but what if it DOES respond to the red camera button?
Then you're good to go.
If I were investing then one of those belt-clip DV firewire Harddrives 
would be just the thing and eliminate the assistant.
